Auto Parade Highlights Veterans Day Observance - November 11, 2020
In keeping with COVID-19 guidelines, the Town Celebrations Committee sponsored a Veterans Auto Parade on Veterans Day, November 11. “Veterans Day is just too important to let COVID stop us from honoring our veterans and engaging the community,” said June Baer, Chair of the Town Celebrations Committee.
More than 40 veterans in private cars, classic cars, and motorcycles, accompanied by a Town fire truck, police car, and Lexington Minute Men float, left the Community Center at 1:00 p.m. with Doug Lucente, Chair of the Select Board, in the lead.
All along the parade route, veterans were met with waves, cheers and smiles from community members, many holding signs saying “Thank You for Your Service.” Drivers in passing cars honked their horns. Onlookers waved flags and balloons and took photos. Veterans constantly waved from their vehicles to acknowledge this show of appreciation.
During the parade lineup, Lexington Boy Scouts and Girls Scouts placed flags on each Veteran’s car and drew their branch of service on their car window. At the conclusion of the parade in St. Brigid’s parking lot, the scouts washed all the car windows before the Veterans departed.
Please enjoy these memories below. We are grateful to Di Ding and Ruimin Weng for their beautiful photography and to LexMedia for their parade video.

LHS Student Essays
Each year, the Town Celebrations Committee, in cooperation with Michael Egbert of the Social Studies Department at Lexington High School, invites juniors to submit essays on the theme of Veterans Day. This year, 14 students submitted essays which have been printed in the booklet below. The Celebrations Committee selected two of these students, Anna Maria Kuraszkiewicz and Asher Burstein, to read their essays as part of the committee’s Veterans Day video production. Watch the Veterans Day video here, which includes the student essays.
