Lexington Veterans Association (LVA) Speaker Series
For the foreseeable future, all regular monthly meetings will be held by Zoom teleconference. If you're on our email list, you will automatically receive an invitation. Not on our list? Please register here.
On the second Monday of each month (except July and August), The LVA hosts a speaker on a military-related topic. Programs are held at the Cary Memorial Library and are free and open to the public. Coffee and conversation start at 12:45 p.m. with coffee generously donated by Starbucks of Lexington Center, and the program begins at 1:15 p.m. Programs range from veterans’ personal stories of combat to a historical analysis of a military battle to a medical discussion of the effects of PTSD. Recent speakers have included the former Dean of Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government, Joseph Nye; former Secretary of the Air Force Sheila Widnall, the first woman to be appointed to head a military department; and John Katsaros, World War II aviator shot down, wounded, captured by the Gestapo, rescued, and crossed the Pyrenees to safety. Our programs are live streamed to veterans in long term care at the Bedford VA Medical Center.
